Once known as the leagues best special teams returner in his first two seasons, he made big-play highlights and statistics that could of easily labeled him as a the greatest returner of all time.
Since 2007 (his last special teams touchdown) he has somewhat dissapeared from being the leagues best returner.
Not to his fault, maybe to the head coach who is trying to convert the former college defensive back into a NFL premium wide receiver. He has all the help with Jay Cutler throwing the football to him and after being shut down in Detroit, and having a big touchdown catch against Dallas, I ask myself, does Devin Hester need to give up his return duties?
Despite Jay Cutler torching the Lions secondary for over 370 yards, Hester caught just one reception for 17 yards.
Hester told reporters "He broke open" a few times but was not targeted whilst he got downfield. He lobbied for more balls to be thrown his way against the Dallas Cowboys.
And he didn't dissapoint, at least not Chicago Bear fans when he caught a nine yard one handed touchdown in the back of the endzone to put the Bears up 17-14 in the 2nd quarter. The Bears went on to win 27-20 to send the Cowboys to (0-2) whilst they improved to (2-0), for the first time since the 2006 super bowl losing season.
Hester hasn't performed amazingly on special teams since the 2007 season and with the arrival of Mike Martz and the emergence of Jay Cutler, Hester might need to forgo his returns and improve on his wide receiver abilities.
